In a journal kept Dec. 6, 1871-May 13, 1872, Ellen E. Jones (also known as Nellie) reminisces about her school years in Cuthbert, Georgia, and Norristown, Pennsylvania. She also discusses her daily life in Macon, Ga., mentioning holiday celebrations, entertaining, books read, needlework, sewing machine lessons, and parties, balls, and theatrical productions attended. The incomplete letter, part of which is dated Mar. 31, 1854, was written by Ellen Jones' Aunt Claude Perry to Ellen's mother.
